Blogging about Writing....I like it.

I am very familiar with the question “how long did it took for you to learn English?” and I would tell them that it took me roughly two years to have a full conversation with someone. Although, there were sometimes  misunderstandings or just words that I didn’t know the meaning of but I always figure it out. Speaking it is easy but truly writing it? that was and still somewhat of  a challenge for me.

I came when I was eleven, proper clause, pronoun, noun, and all grammars was truly foreign to me. I didn’t go through the proper training for it as a child, although I was taught with the basics of punctuations in Vietnam the way our sentence structure is completely different from the U.S. As you can imagine, writing to me was really tough for me. Fortunately, I encountered a form of writing that I later learned was Poetry. Poems were much easier to write for me. When I write poems, I feel I can  truly express myself through this form of writing. So, I guess you can say that I have a love hate relationship with writing. I have spent the last eight years working and improving on my writing skills, but I never enjoyed it very much and I thought I never will.

Senior year of high school changed my entire attitude toward writing around. After my first lesson in English Literature with a teacher who will later become the most incredible teacher/person I’ve ever met and is my Favorite teacher in my entire learning career. He taught me new ways and technique to write better papers. Instead of just giving me a grade for my paper, He actually gave me  useful feedbacks I needed to hear in order to improve on my paper. He showed me a lot and it really helped, I started to enjoy writing a little more and is still am trying to improve it each and everyday.

My future career will requires a lot of writings in form of reports and research paper and such. Therefore, I hope to keep working on my wirting skills and improving on it each and everyday until I excel in it. But even then, I hope to still be able to learn more about the art of writing and surpass what I would then have already comprehend.

SInce I was speaking about my admiration for poetry here is a link to one of my most favourite piece of poetry called I know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. This piece, ironically enough, was one of the first piece of poetry I was exposed to as a child. Everytime I read it, I tend to learn something new. It’s like the poem have grown with me over time. It kind of cool. :)

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing

A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky….

That was a small part of it the rest is located at http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/178948  since I didn’t want to overwhelm whoever thats reading this because of how long it looks.
