DIY

My knowledge of DIY yourself culture has really only come from what I've seen on TV which is people making things out of wood or using old things to  fix up their houses instead of wasting money on professional help. TLC and HGTV are prime DIY channels if I do say so myself. Why spend money on professionals when you can do it yourself right? People, especially these days where technology is practically always at hand, can research whatever they would like to do and figure out a way to do it through websites like Pinterest and Google. For instance my mom wanted to finish the basement in my house and she watched shows, YouTube videos and looked up information online so that she could make our basement a comfortable and livable space. She gathered supplies and tools and then carried out the process (with some family help of course). Now my basement has ceilings, walls, carpet, and even a separate bedroom. It's really interesting what you can do when you are actually dedicated to getting something done.
Though I don't particularly identify myself as a maker, one of the only personal examples of DIY projects I can think of was when I wanted to buy a pair of shorts two summer's ago. I thought hard and  realized that I had a plethora of old jeans in my closet that I never really wore (It seemed as though flared jeans kind of went out of style after middle school). So, I took out a pair and cut them into shorts so that I didn't have to beg my parents to buy me a new pair.
Therefore to me, DIY is a lot about saving money, and, also about getting things done EXACTLY the way you want them to be done.

  1. It's very interesting how your mom found things that are online to do her own home improvement. My mom wants to do the same so i will look up the things that she wants to do so that maybe we can do this project together :) .

  2. Its always really cool to update your wardrobe, even if you only have scissors. Have you tried backing a razor back tank top out of a t-shirt?
