Learning For Me

Frustration is the first thing that pops into my mind when I think about learning. It's not that I don't like to learn, it's just the frustration of not knowing everything right away. I think about the difficulties of learning, but how rewarding it is when you finally understand the material. It’s easy for me to want to give up on something difficult I’m learning and quit trying, which isn’t a good trait and something I’m trying to fix. I also think about how fortunate I am when it comes to my education and my ability to learn and comprehend material. Not everyone has the opportunity to learn and get a good education, so I try and remind myself how lucky so many of us are.
My experience learning so far throughout my life has been extremely rewarding. My parents made it possible to send me and my four siblings through school and continue on in college. Coming to college has been a huge learning curve for me. I’ve definitely had to learn how to adjust my schedule and manage my time better, along with becoming familiar with college professors’ teaching styles. There have been many new, exciting things to learn in college and I still have so much to learn.
One of my biggest learning experiences of my life has been my service project to Peru. I had no idea going into it that I’d learn so much about life in general. From that experience alone I gained so much knowledge that I wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else. What truly made me happy with my service experience in Peru was how much I learned about myself. I think at some point in everyone’s lives they realize something about themselves they never knew, and during that summer is when I realized mine.

This is a picture with me and some of the impoverished children of Peru. I was teaching them English words and how to play with bouncy balls.
