When I think of DIY, my mind turns to my mom. She is
constantly watching the DIY Network. The DIY Network is the typical mom channel
on television. The shows displayed on the DIY Network usually consist of home
improvement tips and tricks. When I was younger, I detested shows like this. I
recall incessantly bugging my mom to change the channel. I just wanted to watch
cartoons, not some boring episode on how to fix houses. That being said, now
that I’m older, I can appreciate the shows more. I mean let’s be honest, I
would still rather watch cartoons, but the creativity that these people put
into their projects is admirable. The picture below shows an example of the
types of projects that you can see on the DIY Network. This is a bar top with
pennies as its surface. It’s pretty amazing if I do say so myself. I guarantee
that I will have something similar to this, in my future home, one day.
All of us have experienced the, “I can make that,” moment.
Keeping with the penny theme, one time there was a pickup truck parked on my
street that was completely covered in pennies. I was obsessed. I immediately
started taking pictures and kept an eye out for old, gold pickup trucks. I have
a problem with starting out strong with a plan, but then it seems to fade into the background.
The follow through is the most difficult part of the process. I often find
myself making excuses for not starting or finishing an activity. I begin to
have doubts and tell myself, “you don’t have time” or “it’s too complicated.”
Hopefully, I’m not the only one who feels this way. My goal, by the end of this
class, is to be able to ignore these pathetic excuses in order to allow my
creativity to grow.

GO MOM!! :D
ReplyDeleteHaha well we all have the problem of procrastinating, as well as giving excuses as to not finishing a job. It's ok, we all do that and eventually you will find time to do it. My excuse that I use to make myself get things done is that, "It'll be fun!" or "It's better than homework!" haha :p
