Blog 2: My Love/Hate Relationship with Learning

I am indecisive about what to think when it comes to learning. I think everyone could
agree that one of the most crucial parts when learning is the topic. As students, we
are the ones who choose what we want to learn when the teacher is talking. School is just there
to expose us to the information the world has to offer, but whether or not we absorb the material is completely up to us. For me there are two sides to learning, and depending on the circumstances of
the class I will either love it or hate it. For example, sitting in a classroom where the
teacher looks just as bored to be teaching as I am sitting in their class is probably one of the worst classroom scenarios that can happen. I think that yes, some of the things we learn in school we probably won't use when we graduate, but I don't think the point of school is knowing every major event and every important date that has happened. What will be useful though is things like knowing the best method to study, how to write papers, give speeches and verbally being able to articulate our thoughts and ideas correctly. On the other hand, when I find myself in a class that teaches about something I am interested in or passionate about I find myself totally engaged and excited to learn. Personally I am a visual learner and I love being able to go experience and see topics or ideas first hand that I have learned about in a class. Although learning in a classroom environment can be great, I think that one of the best ways of learning is traveling. I think that sometimes people only believe what they do because it's all they know. Traveling is a great way to broaden your knowledge and experience new things by submerging yourself into the unknown. Being able to go somewhere new and embrace other cultures and traditions is an amazing experience. I think that sometimes we just remain stagnant in our comfort zone and forget what an amazing world we live in. There are endless learning opportunities and experiences that live has to offer.

  4. I love how you mention traveling. I believe that as a society if we were more open to learn and experience other cultures, then we would understand each others difference rather than judge each other.
