Anyways, the reason that I chose to smith was actually for quite an... interesting reason. I used to play the very popular video game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This game is a single-player RPG (Role-Playing Game) that I spent much time playing because of how much I enjoyed it. What tends to happen in these games is you get to assume an alter-ego, a different personality if you will, and I loved being able to get away into a life that was not my own boring one. In the game, I was actually part of an ancient thieves order, but in the order, I could not reveal my true identity to others, or so I pretended. I don't know why I'm writing this. So unless I was on a mission, my alter-ego assumed its own alter-ego as a local blacksmith. It actually helps to learn smithing in the game in order to gain stronger armour and weapons, but I actually made it so my houses had smithing machines on-hand. As I was gaining the skill, I actually really liked what I was seeing in regards to the animations, and also what many of the smithing characters had to say about the subject. All of the characters that were blacksmiths were actually quite bad*ss, including my own character, and it instilled in me at least the tiniest urge to try it one day. So, when ideas for the I-Make project needed to come along, I thought it a good push to finally do so, and try smithing.
Here's a screenshot in the game that I found that actually has a member of my thieves order smithing:
