Second Life Jargon
In my community, it took me awhile to get use to the jargon and the lingo of the site. I was very unfamiliar with a lot of concepts and had to learn the ropes of Second Life and even google what some terms meant. This was all new to me and I was excited to learn new ideas and a way of life in the virtual world. To do that though, I had to learn a lot of new sayings. Some examples of jargon in my community are avatar, griefer, inworld, linden, deed, full perm, and MOTD. An avatar in this community is a representation or a resident in Second Life. Griefer is a resident trying to make another resident's life unpleasant and not comfortable. Inworld refers to to being in the virtual world or Second Life. Linden is an employee of of the Linden Lab. A deed is is to give a parcel of land or object to a group. Full perm is an abbreviated term for full permission, which means you can freely copy objects. Lastly, MOTD is the message of the day. This is displayed every time you log into Second Life. As you can see, there is a lot of strange terms and sayings that I haven't heard of. There are so many more but I can't list them all. This was a really fun part of this project; fining out how to fit in and fully immerse myself into the culture of Second Life.
