What is joining a community like? What is an example of a community you joined in the
past and what steps did you take?
When first trying to join a community it can be difficult. You may not know anyone in the community but that can be a good thing, because it can put people out of their comfort zone making them meet new and interesting people. One gets to learn new things they never knew about before and also learns the communities language. You get access to a great network of knowledge from communities. One community I joined in the past in (real life) and online was Drift STL. The year I went to my first Drift DTL event was probably the best year to join the community. Our home track Gateway Motorsport Park had just reopened. Everyone was out at Midnight Madness which was their first event in multiple years after going bankrupt. Everybody was super nice going around looking at cars, offering helping hands when cars broke down. Just after going to one event I was able to meet the owner of Drift STL, who the good friend was actually family friends with. I then went online and joined their forum. I had to create a username and profile. After creating a profile I then needed to make a introduction post in the introduction thread section. You needed to do this so all of the admins and community could get to know you. Then you needed to make a certain number of posts before you were able to start your own threads. This community is nice and helpful, everything on the forum is about problems people are having with their cars and others comment to give suggestions on how to fix it. It is also a great place to sell and buy parts and keep people up to date on the build of your car. But one negative thing is you better type well otherwise there are some people that will give you grief about it. It has only been three years since I joined the community, I am already one of the top drivers and have meet many great people from the community that I can now call my friends.
