In my online community of dirt track racing there is so much jargon. Some of the most common ones you come across are abbreviations like LF, LR, RF, RR. LF is left front, LR is left rear, RF is right front, RR is right rear. These are used a lot when people are talking about the wight and set up of their car. These cars are all custom built cars from scratch, which is why they care so much about corner weight. For me on this forum I do not get confused about most of the terms they use because I have experience with automobile racing just not dirt track. One of the bigger threads on the forum is engine tech. In this tread it ranges from beginners wanting help on what engine to build to pro motor builds to people who just needing help with some small problems. This thread is packed full of automotive jargon terms having to deal with engines. Like rods, pistons, cams, cubic centimeters, carburetor, RPM, crank shaft and the list keeps going. Another jargon term is alky or alcohol, which is a type of fuel that is used in drift track because it keeps the engine cooler there for makes more power. Reading through the forum I noticed everyone bringing up bite. When looking more into it I noticed it had to deal with their suspension setup. This is a big deal to them because when they are entering a corner they swing the cars slide ways a little bit to get threw the corner faster. The amount of bite and corner weight of your car can change the swing factor of the car, which is just how the car reacts when you swing it. For most people I feel like trying to read this forum would be like them trying to read a foreign language. I am just lucky enough to already know a lot about cars and how they work.
